Robert Murdoch

Robert Murdoch

Robert was born and brought up in Glasgow and educated in Edinburgh. He attended The Middlesex Hospital medical school in London and qualified as a doctor in 1971.

After surgical training in the west of Scotland and wider experience in South Africa, he was appointed Consultant General Surgeon in Cumbria in 1989. During this appointment, Robert was a trustee for the local Hospice at Home.

Robert returned to Scotland in 1996 as Consultant General Surgeon with an interest in breast cancer at Perth Royal Infirmary and Ninewells Hospital, NHS Tayside. During this time he was involved in hospital management as Associate Medical Director and then had a wider role, as Clinical Group Director for Critical Care across NHS Tayside.

Other interests were in clinical quality assessment on behalf of Clinical Standards Board for Scotland and then NHS Quality Improvement Scotland.

As a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, Robert was involved in teaching and examining surgical trainees in the UK and abroad.

He retired fully in 2012 before joining the Board of Crossroads Caring Scotland in 2013 and serving the Board as Chairman from December 2014 to 2017.

Robert lives with his wife in Auchterarder and enjoys golf, travel and visiting their grandchildren in London.
