Robert W Thomson

Robert was brought up and educated in Fife and later earned a BA (Hons) and MBA qualifications.

After school he spent three years in banking before joining Fife Constabulary.

Throughout his career in the police force he performed a number of roles including: Press Officer, IT Manager, Strategic Development and Divisional Commander.

He was also appointed to several national and Home Office committees and working parties on a range of topics including: emergency response, extranet and counter-terrorism. He retired in 2002 as Chief Superintendent.

He was appointed as Market Development executive for W.S. Atkins, Consultant Engineers, before becoming self-employed and working as a consultant to multi-national clients before fully retiring in 2012.

He has been an active rotarian for 25 years and has served at District and National committee level. His other voluntary roles include: life member of the John Muir Trust; founding fellow of the Institute of Contemporary Scotland; member and volunteer guide for the Royal Scottish Geographical Society.

He was a member of the Crossroads Caring Scotland (CCS) Fife Central board for 13 years and also served on the CCS Perth & Kinross board.

Robert’s interests include: travel, cinema, reading, theatre and hill-walking.
