Carer Organisations Join Forces to Launch Manifesto

Crossroads Caring Scotland and the five National Carers Organisations have prepared a manifesto in advance of next year's Scottish Parliament elections.

The manifesto highlights the contribution made by Scotland's carers in financial terms and offsets this against the relatively small cost of providing carer support services.

At the core of the manifesto is a request for an additional £135 million for short breaks - identified by carers as their main priority.  A macromedia flash presentation of the document can be viewed by clicking the picture on the right (click on the small square icon for a full size view) or by downloading the PDF below.

A Tiger in Your Taxi ....

Radio Clyde legend Tiger Tim Stevens joined forces with the Carers Information and Support Line to promote the launch of its latest campaign to reach Glasgow’s carers.  Three Glasgow taxis, which have been dubbed the ‘Carers’ Cabs’, have been kitted out with contact information for the service.

Under the banner ‘Are you looking after someone?’, carers are invited to contact the Carers Information and Support Line for advice on local support services.

Robert Thomson, a carer himself, is one of three taxi owners helping to promote the service throughout the city.  Robert said, “I am pleased to be part of this initiative and really appreciate the difference a little bit of support can make to the lives of carers.  The message is really straightforward and the 3 taxis look highly distinctive”.

The Carers Information and Support Line, which is jointly funded by NHS Glasgow and Clyde and Glasgow City Council Social Work Services, sits at the heart of Glasgow’s carers information strategy.  The service provides a central access point to local carer support services and is particularly relevant to those who are still coming to terms with their caring role.

David Campbell, the Project Development Officer said “We are extremely pleased that Tiger Tim is involved with the launch.   The success of the service depends on it being well known and Tim’s involvement will make a huge difference. Glasgow TOA Cabs arranged the adverts a few weeks ago and already we have seen a substantial rise in the numbers of enquiries”.
